Mangaluru: Congress would take strict disciplinary action against leaders who will take part in the "Virat Hindu Samajotsava" being organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad here on March 1, Karnataka PCC President Parameshwar said on Monday.
He told reporters here that senior Congress office- bearers would be deployed as observers to watch the movements of Bharatiya Hindu Parishad (BHP), a Hindu outfit, which was floated by a local party leader from Puttur, Hemanath Shetty, and others intending to attend the Samajotsava.
Parameshwar said the party would not tolerate any of its workers being identified with a religious outfit. The leaders participating in the VHP's proposed meet would be expelled, he said.
He also said local Congress leader Vijayanath Vittal Shetty might be removed from party membership if he chooses to preside over the 'Hindu Samajotsava' on March 1.
Ibrahim Kodijal had been given the responsibility of the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district Congress president for the time being and the new president would be chosen later, he said.
