Cairo: A political activist in Egypt has been arrested on the charge of inciting protest against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, media report on tuesday.

Mohamed Nassar was arrested for holding a banner that read "You promised you will not remove subsidy, you are a liar President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi," al-Shorouk newspaper reported.

Deputy of Qasr al-Nile police station Yehia Mokhtar ordered to detain Nassar for 24 hours pending investigations.

Nassar, who was arrested while standing alone in Talaat Harb square at downtown Cairo, has been charged of inciting citizens to protest against the oil price hike by holding a banner at Talaat Harab Square, insulting Sisi, mobilisation and violating the protest law.

Nassar, however, denied all charges and said he was standing alone, contradicting the allegation of mobilisation.
