Kabul/ New Delhi: The wave of suicide attacks targeting guest houses in which 17 people, including at least nine Indians were killed, is one of the deadliest against Indian targets.

Following is the chronology of attacks in Kabul in recent times:

  • June 17, 2007: Suicide attack on a bus kills 35 people, most of them police officers.

  • September 29, 2007: 30 people, most of them employees of the Defence Ministry, killed as a Taliban suicide bomber targets a military bus carrying them.

  • January 14, 2008: Eight dead in a Taliban suicide attack on Serena, Kabul's most luxurious hotel.

  • April 27, 2008: Afghan President Hamid Karzai escapes assassination bid as a lawmaker is killed along with two others during a national military parade.

  • July 7, 2008: Over 60 people, including five Indians, killed in a massive car bomb attack on the Indian embassy. India and Afghanistan point finger at Pakistan.

  • February 11, 2009: 26 people die and 55 left wounded as Taliban launch three near simultaneous attacks on office buildings.

  • October 8, 2009: Another massive suicide attack by the Taliban near the Indian embassy kills 17 people and injures 69.
