Washington: An appeals court in Florence on Thursday upheld the guilty verdict against US student Amanda Knox and her former boyfriend for the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007.
Knox said in a statement from Seattle that she was "frightened and saddened" by the unjust decision, which was the result of an overzealous prosecution and narrow-minded probe, Fox News reported.
Knox has been sentenced to 28 1/2 years in prison.
However, lawyers for Knox and her co-defendant Raphael Sollecito have said that they will be appealing to Italy`s highest court.
After deliberating for nearly 12 hours, the court reinstated the guilty verdicts first handed down against Knox and Sollecito in 2009.
The verdicts were overturned in 2011 and the couple were freed from prison, however, Italy`s supreme court vacated that decision and sent the case back for a third trial in Florence.
