Armed militants storm intelligence building in Yemen

Securitymen say alleged Qaeda militants storm intelligence service headquarters in Aden.

Sana (Yemen): Security officials say armed
men, believed to be linked to al-Qaeda, have stormed the
intelligence service headquarters in Yemen`s port city of
Aden.

The officials say the men, armed with automatic rifles
and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, took over the
building`s central courtyard today morning and have made their
way into its detention facility, where al-Qaida suspects are
often held.

The officials clashes with the facility`s guards are
continuing, although it`s still not known if people have been
killed or wounded. The officials spoke on condition of
anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the media.

Nearby residents say they can hear heavy gunfire and see
plumes of smoke rising from the building, as well as
ambulances leaving the area.
