Baghdad: In the latest incidence of violence, at least 37 were killed and dozens injured by a suicide bombing attack at a café in Iraqi capital Baghdad, reports said.

An explosive laden car was detonated inside a café in Amil district of Baghdad which is mainly inhabited by Shiites.

The attacks have been on the rise in recent months in Iraq, escalating the fears of a return to 2006-7 when thousands had been killed in the sectarian attacks.

Over 6000 have been killed so far this year and the spurt in attacks, that are mainly targeted on Shiites, is a result of the government crackdown on a Sunni protest camp in the northern town of Hawijah in April.

Since then, bloodshed and violence have become a routine affair for Iraq, with attacks being witnesses almost every day.

Nearly 1000 had been dead last month, according to UN estimates.

On Sunday, five suicide bombers struck government buildings in western Anbar province killing two cops and three officials.
