Manama: Bahraini blogger Mahmoud al-Youssef, a fierce critic of the government, says he is free after a day in custody.
Al-Youssef was arrested from his home before dawn on Wednesday by Bahraini security, his brother said.
On Thursday evening, he said he has been freed.
"I was released at 10 pm," he said without giving further details.
Al-Youssef, 50, blogs in English. His arrest was seen as a further step in Bahrain`s crackdown on anti-government protests sweeping the country.
Hundreds of opposition activists and leaders have been detained since emergency rule was declared two weeks ago. At least 20 people have been killed in clashes between protesters and security forces.
