Washington: US President Barack Obama and his family have left Washington for their annual Hawaiian vacation, the White House announced.
The status of the trip remained in limbo until due to the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations with Congress, Politico reports.
According to the report, Obama vowed to return to Washington after Christmas to ensure middle class tax rates don't rise automatically on January 1.
Obam encouraged both sides to use the Christmas holiday as a cooling off period before beginning negotiations after Christmas, the report said.
