Blair financed David Miliband`s Labour leader bid: Report London: Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair shelled out 27,000 pounds to support former Foreign Secretary David Miliband's failed Labour Party leadership bid, a media report said.

Blair donated the amount which covered the salary of one of the former PM's staffers who carried out work for the doomed campaign for David Miliband who lost the leadership bid to his brother Ed, 'The Sun' reported.

In fact, Blair's support came despite his reluctance to publicly back David, the report said.

Star Trek actor Patrick Stewart, film director David Puttnam and Blur drummer Dave Rowntree also helped to bankroll the campaign. The details appear in David Miliband's House of Commons register of interests.

David lost out in the Labour leadership election in September to his brother Ed, despite beginning the contest as frontrunner. He announced on 29 September 2010 that he was quitting frontline politics and wouldn't be a part of his brother's shadow cabinet.
