Abuja: Four persons were killed by suspected
members of radical Islamic outfit Boko Haram during a robbery
in Nigeria`s northern town of Askira, official sources said
The incident took place on Thursday when the gunmen of the
sect, notorious for robbing banks to finance its
terror-related activities, killed two people during the bank
raid before attacking the local police station, where an
officer and a civilian were also shot dead, police said.
"Two people were killed inside the bank while the police
officer and civilian were killed at the police station," Malam
Yuthama, a local government spokesman said.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the group had stormed a prison in
neighbouring Yobe state, freeing 14 inmates. Three of their
members were killed during those attacks.
Insurgency by members of Boko Haram has been growing in
The outfit claim they are waging war to install an Islamic
government and Sharia rule in Africa`s largest oil producer.
