Bombs target Baghdad police patrols; 1 killed

Iraqi police officials say a pair of bombs apparently targeting Baghdad security patrols have killed one policeman and wounded at least 15 people.

bombs apparently targeting Baghdad security patrols have
killed one policeman and wounded at least 15 people.

The officials say the first blast took place around 9:30
am today and wounded 11 people, including two policemen, in
the Shiite-dominated Kazimiyah neighbourhood in northern
Baghdad. A Kazimiyah hospital official confirmed the
casualties.

A second bomb killed a traffic policeman in the city
centre a few minutes later.

Police and hospital officials say the bomb, which was
hidden on a parked motorcycle, also wounded two policemen and
two passers-by.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because
they were not authorised to talk to the media.
