Toronto: British Columbia`s Premier Christy Clark on Friday condemned the attack on a Hindu temple in her province and asked authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
"I want to condemn the act of vandalism on the Hindu Mandir temple in Surrey on Saturday night, to convey my regrets to the congregation and community, and to express in the strongest terms that British Columbians pride ourselves in celebrating our diversity, respect for one another, and for each others` places of worship," Clark said.
Video recordings showed two men smashing three windows at the front entrance of the Laxmi Narayan Temple on June 23 in Surrey, British Columbia.
"We know that people from all corners of the world are building our society every day, one that is free, full of opportunity, and most of all, safe and welcoming. I encourage everyone to allow the police to do their job, and carry out their investigation to establish a motive, and to bring those responsible to justice," Clark said in a statement.
The incident outraged the country`s minority community which termed it as a "hate crime".
Earlier, Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney had condemned the attack.
