British PM `takes wife on budget holiday of Spain`

British PM David Cameron and wife Samantha flew to Spain on a budget airline, said a govt source.

London: In an apparent show of
austerity, British Prime Minister David Cameron took his wife
Samantha on a two-day "budget tour" of Spain to celebrate her
40th birthday.

44-year-old David and Samantha Cameron flew
from Britain`s Stansted airport to Malaga in southern Spain by
budget airline Ryanair on Wednesday and they even stayed in a
"mid-market" hotel, the `Daily Mail` reported.

In fact, immediately after the two-hour flight to
Malaga, they were driven to Granada, where they visited the
Alhambra, a magnificent palace and fortress built by the
region`s Moorish leaders in the 14th century.

The couple were then photographed strolling through El
Realejo, a pretty neighbourhood of the Andalucian city -- the
Prime Minister dressed casually in trainers, said the British
newspaper which has published the photos of the Camerons.

They are also thought to have visited the Mirador San
Nicolas, which offers spectacular views of the Alhambra and
the whole of Granada.

Samantha turns 40 on April 18, but the couple took the
opportunity of the start of the Easter parliamentary recess to
get away, the newspaper said, adding it is their first foreign
holiday since he became Prime Minister last May.

However, the Camerons left their three children,
including seven-month-old Florence, in Britain. Downing Street
has also not disclosed how the children are being cared for,
but the family is said to have a part-time nanny.

The couple aborted plans for a luxury family holiday
in Thailand at Christmas amid fears it would appear excessive
at a time when thousands were losing their jobs.
