Brother of Dagestan President killed in Russian air crash
A plane overshot the runway after crash landing at an airport outside Moscow.
Moscow: The brother of the President of the Russian republic of Dagestan was one of the two people killed in a plane crash at Moscow airport, a Dagestan official quoted by a news agency said on Sunday.
The brother of Magomedsalam Magomedov had originally been reported as among more than 80 people rushed to hospital after the Tupolev-154 broke into three pieces while attempting an emergency landing at Moscow airport yesterday.
But the Dagestani government today said that Gadjimurad Magomedov had been killed and had been buried the same day, in keeping with Muslim tradition.
"The body has been taken back to Makhachkala, then it was taken to the president`s home village, where it has been buried," said an official of the Dagestani government.
The second victim of the crash was Rosa Gajiyeva, the 81-year-old mother of Gadis Gajiyev, a judge in Russia`s constitutional court.
The three-engine plane had recently taken off from Moscow Vnukovo airport bound for the Dagestani capital Makhachkala carrying 163 passengers and nine crew members when it experienced engine failure.
It made an emergency landing at Moscow-Domodedovo airport yesterday, but overshot the runway and broke into three parts.
