Beijing: The former top police chief in north China`s Inner Mongolia region has been detained on suspicion of murdering a 28-year-old woman, media reported on Sunday.
Zhao Liping, who headed police in the region for seven years until 2012, had known the woman "for several years," the respected Chinese financial outlet Caixin reported.
Caixin cited sources as saying that Zhao placed his victim`s body in his Audi car before being intercepted by police near the city of Chifeng.
Zhao is also a poet, whose published works include "mottos of a Chinese strategist," and "river sunset," Caixin added.
China`s official Xinhua news agency said the murder happened on Friday, adding that Zhao had "nearly 30 years of work experience in the public security system."
It gave no further details about the case.
Inner Mongolia covers more than a 10th of China`s total land mass and has a population of around 25 million people.
