China: Film blames Dalai Lama for self-immolations

China Central Television has released a documentary, which features police surveillance footage of the fiery protests.

Beijing: China has reportedly released a documentary that accuses the Dalai Lama of orchestrating a wave of self-immolations by Tibetans.

China Central Television (CCTV) has released the documentary, which features police surveillance footage of the fiery protests.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, this is Beijing’s most elaborate attempt so far to shape international opinion about the protests against Chinese rule.

Tibetans interviewed described contacting monks living in exile and sending them photographs of would-be protesters, and the documentary says this is evidence of collusion.

According to the report, a narrator quoted comments supposedly made by the Dalai Lama in support of the self-immolations.

The Tibetan government-in-exile has, however, denied that the Dalai Lama or other exiled Tibetans have been instigating the protests.
