Haddin poised to record 2000 Test runs, 1000 dismissals

Durban: Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin turns 34 on Sunday and is poised to record 2000 Test runs and 1000 dismissals.

Haddin will celebrate his 34th birthday at St George`s Park in Port Elizabeth tonight for the second one-day international of the series against South Africa. By the Test match stage of the tour he needs five runs to become one of four Australian keepers to record 2000 runs and 1000 dismissals in the five-day form after Adam Gilchrist, Ian Healy and Rod Marsh. At the conclusion of the summer of cricket in Australia, Haddin will most likely have 100 ODI caps to his name (currently on 91). As this poignant period of his career approaches, Haddin says he can look back with pride. But he also sees exciting years ahead for Australian cricket and doesn`t believe his job is done yet. ``I`m only 28 so I`ve got a few years left in me yet,`` jokes Haddin, the oldest in the Australian Test and ODI teams behind Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey and Brett Lee. ``Look, that`s something you guys [the media] talk about a lot, but from inside the team no one really looks at age. We`ve got guys coming in at 18 or 19 now, so once you`re in a squad, the age doesn`t really come into it,” a leading daily quoted Haddin, as saying. He added: ``It`s a very exciting squad to be a part of, we`ve obviously got a lot of new guys coming in and we think we`re just on the brink of going forward and doing something special.`` ANI
