China punishes 17 officials for dereliction of duty

China on Friday punished 17 officials in its volatile Xinjiang province for dereliction of duty after a series of terror attacks in the region in September 2014.

Beijing: China on Friday punished 17 officials in its volatile Xinjiang province for dereliction of duty after a series of terror attacks in the region in September 2014.

The disciplined officials deemed negligent included Liu Fulin, Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Luntai County, and his deputy and other county and township officials, state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

Most were given serious warnings and the CPC chief and government head of Terakbazar township were sacked.

Forty rioters died in a series of planned bomb attacks in Luntai County on September 21, 2014.

Six civilians were killed and dozens injured in the terror attacks.

Xinjiang is in the midst of an intensive crackdown on terrorism after a string of terrorist attacks in the region.
