Beijing: Beijing has denounced as irresponsible US Senator John McCain’s remarks after he called China`s Diaoyu Islands are ‘Japanese territory’.

McCain said in Tokyo that the Chinese are violating fundamental rights that Japan has to the islands.

According to the China Daily, he said that nations feeling increasingly threatened by China’s maritime presence need to act in closer coordination with each other.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei slammed the comments and said that the Diaoyu Islands have been China`s territory since ancient times, and individual`s attempt to deny the facts will be in vain. He asked the US lawmaker to stop making irresponsible remarks and avoid further complicating related issues and the regional situation, the report added.
