Cairo: A conscript was killed and 10 civilians, including an officer, were injured in clashes between militants and security forces in the restive Sheikh Zwaied city in Egypt's North Sinai region.
A number of militants were killed during the clashes late yesterday, security sources said.
At the same time, three missiles fell near an army camp in Rafah city yesterday, the sources said.
However, no casualty was reported, they added.
North Sinai has been the stage for many militant attacks since the January 2011 revolution that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
