New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission is awaiting for over four months the sanction to launch prosecution against 47 government officials for their alleged involvement in corruption.

CVC officials said 29 cases involving 47 officials from different ministries and departments are pending sanction for prosecution.

Of the total cases, a maximum of 11 are pending with the Ministry of Finance, three with Ministry of Railways and two each with Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and State Bank of India.

Besides, the anti corruption watchdog is awaiting nod to prosecute corrupt personnel in one cases each related to the Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Steel, Delhi Government, Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Labour, Canara Bank, Dena Bank and Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).

The probity watchdog has put up a list on its website giving details of 47 officials accused of graft.

"The concerned ministries or departments are regularly reminded to clear the cases related to sanction for prosecution," a CVC official said.

The Supreme Court while hearing a case last month had held that sanction would be deemed to be granted if the competent authority fails to take a decision within a period of four months.
