London: Prime Minister David Cameron says Britain will join France and the United States in putting forward a UN Security Council resolution to put Syria`s chemical weapons under international control.
He told a parliamentary committee on Tuesday that the proposal should be taken very seriously because it would accomplish the goal of getting rid of chemical weapons inside Syria.
He says, "this is a serious offer, we should treat it accordingly."
The prime minister also warns that the proposal cannot be used as a delaying tactic or as a ruse to buy more time for the Syrian regime. Cameron says he spoke to President Barack Obama about the plan today.
The new proposal was first made by Russia yesterday and has since gained some international backing.
