Don`t delay fight against terror: Medvedev

There should be no delay or pause in the fight against terrorism and terrorists should be fought in a tough and consistent way, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday.

Moscow: There should be no delay or pause in the fight against terrorism and terrorists should be fought in a tough and consistent way, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday.

"There should be no delays or pauses. Various retaliatory measures should be taken fast," Medvedev told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.

The Russian President is scheduled to visit Norway on April 26-27.

Medvedev said terrorists should be eliminated and conditions created for "life in the Caucasus to become modern, acceptable for people, for them to be able to implement their desires: both material and spiritual".

"Material means the desire to have a normal welfare and acquire normal property. Spiritual - for Muslim regions mainly - means for them to be able to normally profess Islam. This should be Islam traditional for our country and not the one they are trying to bring from abroad, often in the terrorist package," he said.

Russia has been on a high alert after recent terrorist attacks on Moscow and the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan.

Two bomb blasts in Moscow`s Lubyanka and Park Kultury metro stations on March 29 killed 40 people and injured over 100, while the March 31 blasts in Kizlyar town in Dagestan claimed 12 lives.
