London: Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian, who earned notoriety for reporting the revelations by Edward Snowden about National Security Agency surveillance, is joining a new media venture being set up by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar.
Greenwald, who is a US citizen based in Brazil, insists none of the information he published could have damaged national security.
Omidyar has confirmed that he would be financing a new mass media venture and will be joined by the journalist Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian.
Omidyar has numerous philanthropic, business and political interests, mainly through an investment entity called the Omidyar Network.
Snowden has presently taken asylum in Russia. He has so far revealed a lot about National Security Agency.
Omidyar has also revealed that he wanted to support independent journalists that empower their capability to a huge extent.
Jennifer Lindauer, a spokeswoman for the Guardian, said in a statement posted on Greenwald`s site: "We are of course disappointed by Glenn`s decision to move on, but can appreciate the attraction of the new role he has been offered. We wish him all the best."
