Washington: Many Egyptian are unhappy about a draft Constitution that Islamist allies of President Mohammed Mursi approved early on Friday, as it removed a clause that specifically guaranteed equality for women in the country.
Women activist and other critics in the country have expressed fear the draft constitution could be used to violate their rights.
“You take your salary from my taxes. You have no right to tell me to live my life, how to dress, how to talk,” CBS News quoted a female Egyptian blogger, as saying.
“You have no right to put me in jail because I'm expressing my opinion on the Internet or in the streets. And this is what they did in the constitution,” the blogger added.
According to the report, the country’s first democratically elected leader Mursi is making a political gamble.
He is betting that a majority of Egyptians will vote for this draft constitution.
If he is right, then Mursi will tighten his grip on power, the report said.
But If he's wrong, if Egyptians reject this proposed constitution, then they're also rejecting Mursi's Islamist vision for Egypt, it added.
