Cairo: An Egyptian official says a fire
at a barrack for security forces in eastern Cairo has killed
11 soldiers and injured four others.
The security official says about 40 Interior
Ministry troops were asleep inside the building at the el-Marg
Central Security camp when the blaze broke out early today.
He says an electrical short-circuit most likely
sparked the fire.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity
because he wasn`t authorized to speak to the press.
Egypt requires some fire-safety measures in
buildings, such as fire extinguishers, but in general the
rules are not strictly enforced.
