Beijing: The Air Force of China should build
up "powerful capability" to answer the country's defence needs
in the 21st century, a top Chinese official said on Wednesday as the
force marked its 60th founding anniversary.
Vice chairmen of the Central Military Commission (CMC)
Guo Boxiong and senior officers of the People's Liberation
Army (PLA) Air Force attended a ceremony here to celebrate the
occasion. The PLA Air Force was founded on November 11, 1949.
Guo urged the Air Force to build up a "powerful
capability" that could answer the defence needs of Chinese
armed forces in the 21st century, the official Xinhua news
agency reported.
As an important branch of the Chinese armed forces, the
PLA Air Force has made glorious contribution to safeguarding
the country's national security and interests, Guo said.
He stressed that the country's armed forces, including
the Air Force, should steadfastly follow the command of the
Party's Central Committee, the CMC and the Chinese President
and CMC's Chairman Hu Jintao at any time.
Guo also urged the Air Force to improve their abilities
for fulfilling diversified military operations by
"transforming their training from mechanised condition to
informationalised condition," the report said.
Air force chiefs from more than 30 countries have been
invited to China to participate in a series of celebrations to
mark the Air Force founding anniversary.
