Brussels: The leaders of the EU and China will discuss a range of issues at a summit tomorrow in Brussels, but the EU`s customary joint press conference afterward won`t be held amid concerns that the Chinese were manoeuvring to exclude journalists they didn`t like.
An EU official said Chinese diplomats insisted that only 50 journalists be admitted 25 from China and 25 from outside China and that only four questions be asked.
EU officials talked with the Brussels-based International Press Association, which said it feared Chinese officials wanted to control who could attend.
Association President Ann Cahill said the arrangement was "designed to tacitly prevent situations that arose in the past" when a summit press conference was cancelled after journalists who Chinese authorities disapproved of were allowed in.
