EU to tackle climate stalemate at February summit

Brussels: European Union President Herman Van Rompuy says EU leaders will try to chart out Europe`s strategy for global climate talks at a February 11 summit.
EU nations failed to get other countries to agree to binding cuts to greenhouse gas emissions at December talks.

Van Rompuy said in today’s speech that the 27-nation bloc still hopes "to translate the EU`s ambitious climate goals (into) global negotiating power."

Last week, he called for an extra summit on February 11 to discuss how Europe could boost growth as deep recession hikes unemployment and reduces the economy`s ability to expand.
