Far right `hijacking` military symbols: UK brass

Retired senior British military commanders are accusing the far right of hijacking military symbols for "their own dubious ends."

London: Retired senior British military
commanders are accusing the far right of hijacking military
symbols for "their own dubious ends."

The Times newspaper says four generals have written a
letter saying extremists and racists "are fundamentally at
odds with the values of the modern British military."

The newspaper said today the letter was signed by former
army chiefs Gen Mike Jackson and Gen Richard Dannatt and two
others.

The white-supremacist British National Party has used
military symbols such as a Spitfire fighter plane in campaign
literature.

The party holds two seats in the European Parliament and
later this week leader Nick Griffin is to appear on the BBC`s
political debate show, "Question Time", a decision criticised
by the government.
