Manila: The Philippine military says a
14-year-old American boy who was abducted with his mother and
cousin by suspected Muslim militants five months ago has been
released.

Military spokesman Lt Col Randolph Cabangbang says Kevin
Lunsmann was released today in Lamitan town on southern
Basilan Island, two months after suspected Abu Sayyaf
militants released his Filipino-American mother. His Filipino
cousin escaped last month.

They were believed to be held for ransom, but Cabangbang
did not say if any was paid.

They were vacationing with relatives on an island near
southern Zamboanga city when they were snatched July 12 and
taken by boat to nearby Basilan. The captors then called the
family in Virginia to demand a ransom.
