Five rebels killed in Philippines


Manila: At least five leftist rebels were killed on Thursday in a clash with security forces in the Philippines.

According to officials, the clash between the soldiers and members of the New People`s Army (NPA) took place in Guinguinabang village in Abra province, Xinhua reported.

The NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been fighting a leftist insurgency in 60 Philippine provinces since 1969.
