Paris: French authorities have filed preliminary terrorism charges against four men as part of a probe into a suspected extremist recruitment network.

A judicial official said on Saturday the three Frenchman and one Indian are suspected of seeking to reach militant training camps in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about terrorism investigations.

They were among seven people detained Tuesday in and around Paris. The three others were released.

The four face preliminary charges of criminal association with a terrorist enterprise. One is also accused of terrorism financing.
