Rome: Four Italian soldiers were killed in
Afghanistan on Saturday, the defence ministry said, taking to 34 the
number of troops from Italy to lose their lives in the
war-torn country since 2004.

details. A spokesman did not confirm that a fifth soldier was
wounded in the attack.
Italy has about 3,400 soldiers in Afghanistan, most of
them in the west of the country. The deployment is set to grow
to 4,000 soldiers by the end of the year.
