Paris: France`s Interior Ministry says about 40 graves of Germans killed in World War I have been vandalized.
The incident came just before the leaders of the two countries meet on Sunday to honour their reconciliation after two world wars.

The ministry said in a statement late yesterday night that the graves targeted are in a military cemetery in Saint-Etienne-a-Arnes in northern France. It calls the vandalism "totally intolerable." The reason for the attack is unclear.

French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are meeting today in Reims, France, to mark the 50th anniversary of a meeting between France`s Charles de Gaulle and Germany`s Konrad Adenauer that paved the way for the ensuing decades of partnership and greater European unity.
