Paris: Authorities say a few hundred people attacked a police station west of Paris in apparent protest over enforcement of France's ban on Islamic face veils.

An official with the regional police administration said today that a young teenage boy and four police officers were injured and six people were detained in the violence in the town of Trappes yesterday night.

Garbage dumpsters were torched and bus stops shattered, and police fired tear gas.

The official said the violence came during a gathering to protest the arrest of a man whose wife was ticketed for wearing a face veil.

The man assaulted an officer who was doing the ticketing, said the official, who wasn't authorized to be publicly named according to his administration's policy. France has banned face veils since 2011.
