German, American die in Mexico climbing mishaps

Mexico City: Two young climbers, a German and an American, died in separate accidents in northeastern Mexico`s Potrero Chico mountains, authorities said on Monday.

Janosch Sedlasek, 28, from Germany was killed Friday while descending a 300-meter drop in Potrero Chico, near Hidalgo, a popular park for climbing.

"He had not tied a knot" at the end of his rope, and plunged to his death, said Nuevo Leon state public safety chief Jorge Camacho.

Bad weather kept authorities from recovering Sedlasek`s body until Monday.

Meanwhile American Andrew Boolie, 26, from Austin, Texas, was killed in a fall in the same park on Saturday.
