London: A German man has admitted
to sexually assaulting and raping over 1,000 women during a 22
-year crime spree, by copying a trick from the Hollywood flick
`The Silence Of The Lambs`.

46-year-old Joerg P confessed to his crimes before a
German court, which he said was fuelled by his burning desire
to degrade women; and he used the trick from the movie to lure
his victims into feeling sorry for him, a national daily said.

In the film, starring Anthony Hopkins, the killer Jame
Gumb fakes a broken arm to get his prey to help him move heavy
furniture and then hits them around the head. Joerg pretended
to have had a similar injury when he knocked on doors of his
victims and asked to use the toilet.

The man, from Altenahr in the picturesque Rhineland
region of Germany, has confessed to some 20 rapes in Holland,
Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg and asked for another 1,000
sex offences to be taken into consideration.

He admitted he had a burning hatred of "intelligent
women" and told a Dusseldorf court he had an insatiable need
to degrade them. "I wanted to avenge myself on intelligent
women," he was quoted as saying.

The court heard how his poor reading and writing
skills contributed to a personality disorder and the need to
"prove" himself sexually, the report said.

The court also heard he would stake out victims` homes
for hours to make certain they were alone before he struck. As
his compulsions grew stronger, he would go out at night armed
with a knife and a mask made from a nylon stocking and would
break into houses to rape women living alone.

"It caused me a lot of suffering but I could not help
myself," he told police when he was arrested in March, after
DNA evidence was sent from Belgium following a TV crime show.

Joerg P will be sentenced next month and he is likely
to get maximum 15 years in prison, the report said.
