Berlin: Germany's Federal Prosecutor has charged a German and an Austrian with belonging to al Qaeda.
The prosecutor's office said today the two suspects, identified only as 26-year-old German citizen Yusuf O and 22-year-old Austrian citizen Maqsood L, allegedly participated in al Qaeda training camps in the Afghan-Pakistan border
region in 2009 and 2010.
Yusuf O is also charged with helping found the German
Taliban Mujahideen.
The pair met in July 2010 in Pakistan's Waziristan region
and were assigned by al-Qaeda to collect money and recruit new
members for the terror group in Europe upon returning there in
the spring of 2011.
Yusuf O was arrested in Vienna on May 31 on a German
warrant and Maqsood L was arrested in Berlin on May 16.
