Conakry: In what the President`s office called a `tragic drama`, 24 people lost their lives in a stampede as they had gathered at a concert to celebrate the holy festival of Eid.

The unfortunate incident took place at a music concert held at a beach in Ratoma, a northern suburb of the capital city Conakry.

A statement from the president`s office expressed shock at “the tragic drama caused by mass movements at a cultural event”.

Incidentally, the concert where the stampede took place, was by a Guinean rap group named “Instant Killers”, reported the BBC.

Calling the stampede a “tragic drama”, the President`s office has declared a week of national mourning, added the report.

Among those dead, 13 were girls.

Also, many more were injured in the stampede, reports said.
