Gunman opens fire at Finland school, no injuries Helsinki: A gunman was arrested after firing several shots at a school in southern Finland but no one was injured in the incident, police said on Friday.

The man, in his 20's, shot through the door of a classroom in the corridor of a secondary school in Orivesi, 190 kilometres (120 miles) north of the Helsinki, Detective Superintendent Jari Kinnunen said.

"He fired several shots into the classroom through the door, but no one was hurt," Kinnunen said. "We have detained the suspect."

Kinnunen said that all the students and staff were safe, and that the shooter was not a student at the school.

Earlier on Friday, a man was injured in a shooting incident in the town, Kinnunen said, but could not confirm if the incidents were related.

Finland has seen two deadly school shootings in recent years.

In 2008, a culinary student killed nine fellow students and a teacher before shooting himself at a vocational school in Kauhajoki, western Finland.

A year earlier, an 18-year-old killed six fellow students, a nurse and the principal at a high school in Tuusula, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of Helsinki, before shooting himself.

After the attacks, authorities applied several measures to improve safety at schools, including the installation of monitoring cameras, lockable doors for all classrooms and training staff to deal with shootings.
