Tokyo: Hammocks are becoming a popular
indoor and outdoor relaxation item in Tokyo with many fans
taking part in workshops for crafting them and events
to watch the night sky on the slings.
``Being in a hammock feels similar to being in the
mother`s womb, and there`s always a smile on the person using
it,`` said the leader for the Tokyo-based group Satoyama
Hammock, who refers to himself as Michiyama.
Satoyama Hammock, which aims to promote the use of the
slings, hosts classes for knitting small hammocks and
organizes activities that creatively use hammocks such as
picnics, yoga and foot reflexology service.
Hiroshi Kajihara, director of Hammock Life Inc. which
sells hammocks online, said more people are using hammocks
indoors. ``There are an increasing number of long-term users
of home hammocks in Japan,`` he said.
The company runs a showroom in Tokyo`s Chofu city
displaying about fifty varieties of hammocks imported from
