‘Hezbollah plans to hit Western targets if Iran attacked’
Toronto: Hezbollah has plans to hit Western targets if the US tries to destroy Iran `s nuclear programme, Canadian intelligence reports say.
According to these declassified intelligence reports, Hezbollah plans to hit Canadian and other Western targets in case the US and allies destroy Tehran `s nuclear programme. Iran has vowed to continue with the nuclear programme, claiming that it is meant for civilian purposes.
Banned in Canada and other Western countries, Hezbollah, which is a terror outfit as well as a political party in Lebanon, is backed by Iran and Syria. It has been blamed for car bombings, hijackings and kidnappings in the Middle East, Europe and South America.
Reports here say "Iranian President Ahmadinejad (has) made Hezbollah responsible for retaliation against Western targets should the US attack Iranian nuclear sites.``
Canada is one of the five `Christian` nations already on the hit list of al Qaeda because of its role in the war against the terror group in Afghanistan. The outfit has managed to recruit a few Canadian Muslims in its mission.
While the four - the US, Britain, Spain and Australia - have been targeted directly or indirectly by the terror outfit, Canada is the only one to have survived any attempt yet.
After the unearthing of the Toronto-18 terror plots three years ago, Canadians have become very vigilant against Islamist groups.
Hezbollah is "rearming and recruiting`` for another war with Israel, as well as readying to strike Western targets if Iran`s nuclear sites are destroyed, say the intelligence reports.
"Hezbollah`s military wing is responsible for planning and executing terrorist acts and collecting intelligence...Hezbollah members may reside in Canada to undertake activities such as intelligence collection,`` says a national daily quoting intelligence reports.
