Bucharest: Near final results show incumbent President Traian Basescu has won the Romanian presidential race.
Election authorities say centrist Basescu polled 50.43 percent of the vote. Former foreign minister Mircea Geoana received 49.57 percent.
Authorities say the results for Sunday's runoff were based on 95.7 percent of the vote counted.
Both Basescu and Geoana claimed victory late Sunday after polls closed. Three exit polls gave Geoana, a Socialist, a slight lead.
