Indian-origin former Fiji PM denied travel to US

Mahendra Chuadhry will enter his plea on March 17 on the tax evasion charges.

Suva: A court in Fiji has turned down Indian-origin former prime minister Mahendra Chuadhry`s request to visit the US.

Chaudhry wanted to visit his sister on her 70th birthday.

Chaudhry is charged on 12 counts of money laundering, tax evasion and giving false information to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority.

He will enter his plea on March 17 on the tax evasion charges, Xinhua reported.

Justice Daniel Goundar stated that Chaudhry`s frequency of travel was of concern to the court as he had not entered a plea since he was charged on July 30 last year.
