Indonesian oil pipeline blast kills five

Jakarta: At least five people were killed and 18 injured after an explosion caused fire in an oil pipeline in Indonesia`s South Sumatra province on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

The pipeline is operated by the country`s state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina.

"The toll from the explosion was five and 18 others were injured," said Rudi Arifianto, the firm`s spokesperson, adding that the explosion was allegedly caused by illegal tapping in the crude oil pipeline in Musi Banyuasin regency.
The fire, which ignited due to explosion at around 6.00 a.m., was extinguished by noon, the official said, adding that the production at Pertamina`s oil refinery was not affected.
