Iran calls for open dialogue on nuclear issue

Iran seeks a "constructive" approach from Western nations for a breakthrough over a UN-backed nuclear swap deal.

Ankara: Iran`s foreign minister is urging a "constructive" approach from Western nations for a breakthrough over a UN-backed nuclear swap deal.
Manouchehr Mottaki says Iran could meet the European Union foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, in Turkey "for an open dialogue" on Iran`s nuclear programme.

Mottaki was speaking on Friday in Istanbul during a brief stopover on his way back from a meeting with members of the UN Security Council, which is contemplating economic sanctions on Iran.

Under the UN plan first put forward in 2009, Western powers would send nuclear fuel rods to a Tehran reactor in exchange for Iran`s stock of lower-level enriched uranium.
