Tehran: The Iranian navy Friday launched its first indigenously built warship, the news network Khabar reported.
The 94-metre-long Jamaran was launched in the presence of Iran`s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the Gulf in southern Iran.

Jamaran is also the name of the district in northern Tehran where Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini resided from the 1979 revolution until his death in 1989.

The warship is equipped with torpedoes and radar, the TV report said.

The launch came one day after the International Atomic Energy Agency for the first time expressed concern that Iran could already be working on a nuclear warhead.
