Tehran: Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad is due to be sworn in on August 5 for a second
term, a prominent MP said on Sunday, amid allegations that he was
fraudulently re-elected.
"The President will be sworn in next Wednesday, August
5," Hamid Reza Haji-Babai told a news agency, adding that
Ahmadinejad is obliged to unveil his cabinet within two weeks
of that day.
Under Iranian law, the President has to be officially
endorsed in a ceremony by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali
Khamenei before being sworn in.
Khamenei has strongly backed Ahmadinejad`s re-election
and dismissed vote rigging allegations by the opposition
spearheaded by the president`s main challenger Mir Hossein
Mousavi.
Iran has been plunged into its worst crisis in three
decades with massive street protests and deadly clashes with
security forces over the disputed re-election of Ahmadinejad.
