Cairo: Seeking to repair the strained ties
with Egypt, Iraq today appealed for Egypt's support in its
reconstruction process.
The Iraqi delegation led by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki
met his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Nazif and President Husni
Mubarak during the two-day visit and both sides discussed ways
of boosting bilateral ties in various fields, including
economic and political domains.
The two nations didnot enjoy cordial relations as Egypt's
ambassador to Baghdad was kidnapped and killed by al-Qaida in
2005 during the reign Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
During today's meet both sides agreed on utilizing Egypt's
expertise in construction of electricity networks in Iraqi.
Training Iraqi cadres with the help of Egyptian companies
as well as contribution of Egyptian companies to development
and infrastructure ventures in Iraq was also discussed.
The meeting was described as as "positive, cordial and
important for the development of Egypt-Iraq ties." by
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hushyar Zibari.
The Egyptian president was posted on the latest political
developments in Iraq as well as the ongoing democratic process
in the country in light of the upcoming Iraqi elections,
slated for 7 March, he said.
